  • What people are saying:

    1) Marlene Nobrega BSC (PT): National Team Therapist for Tennis Canada, Therapist to ATP/WTA Tour Players :

“This book is well organized and comprehensive. It serves as a great introductory manual, and gives excellent insights into life on the professional circuit. I would highly recommend this book to my colleagues, players, coaches, and parents. "

    2) ACE Tennis Magazine (England):

“This fitness manual is a must-have for any really serious performance tennis player. As well as dozens of easy-to-follow exercises on how to keep the body in tip-top condition, it covers a host of topics relevant to top players, including conquering jet lag, playing at altitude, performance eating, water recovery workouts, back injuries, overtraining, warming up and cooling down. But even if your not a world class player, this book will prove a fascinating and informative read. "

    3) International Tennis Productions (ITP) ( tennis4everyone.com) and Dave Sammel states "Fit to Play-Tennis is the best tennis training work book I have read."

“An excellent  practical resource for all players, coaches, parents & therapists.  A multidisciplinary collaboration of useful tips written specifically for tennis and includes important concepts to optimize training for all dynamic sports or activities.”

    4) Tennis Professionals Association (TPA) (tenniscanada.com) states

"A book every coach should have. From touring coaches to those working with beginners, this book offers specific guidelines on a number of topics such as warm-up/cool down routines, injury treatment/prevention, overtraining and recovery guidelines, nutritional concerns, mental training, tapering and peaking for major tournaments, and more"

    5) College and Junior Tennis write:

"Many tennis books with many specialties pass through the College And Junior Tennis office, but Fit To Play Tennis is the most complete one I have seen. Authors Carl Petersen and Nina Nittinger address just about any problem a junior tennis player would face in striving to be in top fitness.

Fit To Play Tennis is an easy to follow manual which includes many photos to explain warm-up and stretching exercises. The book has plenty of blank pages for the player to write notes as they go through the sections. In addition to common information on nutrition, physical & mental training and hydration, Fit To Play Tennis also includes topics that aren't widely covered like jet lag and visual fitness.

Since Fit To Play Tennis covers so many subjects, it really does not get in-depth on all of them, but I find it to be a great general handbook of tips to add to your tennis bag".

    6) Coaching Association of BC. (CABC)

“This new Sports Training book by Carl Petersen & former WTA Player Nina Nittinger, is an excellent resource for Physiotherapists, Players, Coaches, Personal Trainers, Strength & Conditioning Coaches, Athletes and Parents! “

    7) Wayne Elderton, BC Head Course Conductor for Coaching Certification (acecoach.com)

"Fit to Play-Tennis is a 'must have' reference that every tennis coach needs in their library.  It outlines all the aspects players can control around match play and how to maximize them.  Every serious player needs this information to see that playing your best tennis is not just about what goes on at the tennis court".

    8) USA High Performance Coaching e-newsletter writes:

“Fit to Play Tennis is a new book that outlines a number of the ways players can improve and maintain the physical, mental and emotional aspects of their game. This book is co-authored by Carl Petersen, a physiotherapist and fitness, tennis and ski coach, and Nina Nittinger, a former WTA Tour player, tennis coach and licensed trainer for sports psychology. The small format, spiral bound handbook contains chapters on Warming-up, Stretching and cool down, Nutritional Concerns, General Training Concerns, Mental Training, Over training and recovery guidelines, Outsmarting Your Injuries, and Tapering and Peaking for major Tournaments and is designed to fit conveniently in a racquet bag and This is a solid book that contains information on several areas where coaches and players may not have received much information previously."

    9) Rafael Font de Mora, Executive Director ITUSA writes:

“I found it very interesting. It is a very practical and easy to read book that can make a difference for players of all levels especially for players that do not have the opportunity to travel with a full time coach and/or trainer."
